Gastric Sleeve

Gastric Sleeve

The Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy) is a weight-loss surgery that involves removing a large portion of the stomach, leaving behind a thin, sleeve-shaped stomach about the size of a banana. This procedure significantly reduces the stomach’s capacity and helps patients achieve substantial weight loss by limiting the amount of food that can be consumed and decreasing hunger.

Gastric Sleeve Procedure

The patient undergoes a thorough medical evaluation, including imaging and consultations with specialists.

Performed laparoscopically, the surgeon removes approximately 75-80% of the stomach. The remaining stomach is shaped into a narrow tube or sleeve.

Post-operative care involves a hospital stay of 1-2 days, followed by a liquid diet and gradual reintroduction of solid foods.

Candidates for Gastric Sleeve

Ideal candidates typically:
• Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher, or 35 with obesity-related conditions.
• Have not achieved sustainable weight loss through diet and exercise.
• Are willing to make lifelong changes to diet and lifestyle.

Pre-Instructions for Gastric Sleeve

Before the surgery, patients should:
• Follow a pre-operative diet to reduce liver size and ease the surgical process.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol to promote healing.
• Complete any necessary pre-surgical tests and consultations.
